Burcu Uyar
Burcu Uyar, born in 1978, and one of Turkey's most successful opera singers of the younger generation, became third award winner in the 4'th Leyla Gencer Singing Competititon held in in Istanbul August 2006.
In the same year she participated in the European Opera Singing Competition, held in Mannheim. She sang aria's from Massenet's "Manon" and Donizetti's "Lucia", for which the jury awarded her with the first prize. Second was the Russian coloratura soprano Olga Peretyatko and third the South Korean baritone Tae-Joong Yang.
She graduated from the Opera Department in the State Conservatory of Hacettepe University. She performed in Offenbach's "Les Contes d'Hoffmann" (Olympia) with the Izmir State Opera, and in "Don Carlos" (Voce dal Cielo) with the Ankara State Opera.
In 2002, Uyar won an award with the role of "Olympia" at As.Li.Co., and sang the same part in the opera's of Brescia, Cremona, Como and Pavia. In the Istanbul Music Festival 2003 she performed in Fazıl Say's Metin Altıok Oratorio.
In 2004, she was accepted in the Cnipal Opera Academy, and gave concerts with Schola Cantarum Orchestra in Paris. She won the first prize in the ALDECA competition. Uyar was selected for the most important "Coloratura Sopranos" by the Classical Music Television Channel "Mezzo".
She performed recitals in the operas of Avignon and Marseille and attended festivals with Marseille Opera Orchestra. She also gave concerts with the conductor Daniel Tosi and performed in the opening of Perpignan Festival. Among the masterpieces Burcu Uyar sang are: Beethoven's '9th Symphony' in Marseille Opera, Donizetti's 'Maria Stuarda' (Anna) and Mozart's 'The Magic Flute' (Night Queen).
In May this year she received an award as the female opera singer of the year in the Donizetti Classical Music Awards.
