DUDU TASSA & THE KUWAITIS: DON’T BE SO MODEST- YOU AREN’T THAT GREAT

In April 2017, Radiohead invited Dudu Tassa & the Kuwaitis to support them on their U.S. Tour. Dudu Tassa embarked on the journey of his life, accompanied by a unique Jewish-Arab Israeli ensemble consisting of Jews and Arabs, singer Nasreen Qadri and a camera that documented this once-in-a-lifetime experience from this very personal and intimate perspective.

Dudu tries to win the hearts of the American audience with almost-forgotten Iraqi music, written a century ago by Tassa’s grandfather and great uncle. During the process he is regaining the honor their music deserves- on the largest stages in front of large audiences from all over the world.

Alongside great expectations, glory and excitement, we discover the nearly unperceivable connection between Iraqi music and Rock ‘n’ Roll, performed by an Israeli and Arab Muslim singers in the United States.

Dudu Tassa & the Kuwaitis is a new adaptation of the music of Tassa’s grandfather and his brother, Daud and Salah El Kuwaiti, who were among the most famous musicians in the Arab world of the 20th century. The Al-Kuwaiti Brothers left a legacy of over 500 songs, the vast majority of them is still popular in the Arab world nowadays. The music is directed by Dudu Tassa and his musical partner Nir Maimon and is dedicated to the legacy of the Al-Kuwaiti Brothers, reviving their songs and integrating Iraqi, Middle Eastern and rock music in a unique style.

Dudu Tassa is one of the most significant and influential artists in the Israeli music industry, he is among Israel’s best-known singer-songwriters as well as a major figure in the country’s Rock & Roll scene. Dudu released 13 albums, the first of which when he was only 13 years old. He collaborated with many prominent artists, composed for television and cinema and has been featured as an actor and musician in Israeli films.

Among the most significant highlights in his career are the three albums of his project Dudu Tassa & the Kuwaitis.
