
Julian Gorus
Julian Gorus was born in Varna, Bulgaria in 1978.
He started piano at the age of 4, studying with pianist Elisaveta Stuyanov at the Secondary Music School in Varna.
In 1989 Julian was awarded second prize at the 'Masters of the Piano' competition in Usti-Nad-Laben. He was also awarded the special prize for best performance of Slovakian music. Julian performed in the İstanbul festival in 1996, following which he entered Mimar Sinan Conservatoire on a masters programme as an exchange student, studying with Professor Judith Ulug.
In the same year he won first prize in the International Bremen Piano Competition; and first prize; 'Audience award' and 'special prize' in the International Franz Liszt piano competition in Weimar.
During the years 1992 - 2008 Julian participated in masterclasses with Nikolaus Lahussen, Prof.András Hamary, Prof.Günter Ludwig, Prof.Paul van Ness, Germain Mounier, Prof.Hans Erik Deckert, Ferenc Rados, Leslie Howard, Jerome Rose and Peter Cossé. He has been awarded scholarships by the Arthur Rubinstein Academy, The Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation, The Ottilie-Selbach-Redslob Foundation, and the Richard-Wagner Association in Bremen. From 2006- 2008 he studied at the Franz Lizst School of Music where he worked with Professor Arens.
He has performed at numerous festivals, including the International Istanbul Festival in 1995, the International Bonner Beethoven Festial, the International Festival in Austria, the European Liszt Night in Utrecht, Budapest, Weimar and Paris, the Gina Bachauer Festival in Salt Lake City, USA and the 'Varna Summer' Festival in Bulgaria.
Amongst his other awards are the 2nd prize in the 'Master of the Piano' competition in Usti Nad Laben, and special prize for the best performance of Slovakian music in 1989 and 1st prize in the Varna Piano competition for Czech and Slovakian music.
Julian was a jury member in International Bremer Piano Competition in 2009 and in 2010 released his first album of Lizst's 'Annee de pelerinage' under the Haenssler label.
