The Meral Polat Trio traverses from Folk music to protest desert blues, from East to West and back. The trio provides a compelling bed of sound to carry Meral’s words and the poems of her father. Songs in which beauty is given a place; intense sorrow and longing juxtapose up-tempo celebrations of love, freedom and life with a fiery inspiration.
Their music is a fusion of identity and disciplines, originated in a period when all conventions had crumbled and everyday life was no longer an option. It was then that musical research began for the right instrumentation, the right color and a unique way of combining a rich influence of multiple eras, geographical landscapes and cultures. In an intimate setting they question what makes us who we are, and they take the listener along completely. A wonderfully simple setup with an enchanting result.
